Rhizome: Origins

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Artnauts, the CU Art Museum and the Arvada Center are co-organizing a two-part exhibition series centered on the concept of the rhizome. Rhizome: Origins will open at the CU Art Museum in September 2026, followed by Rhizome: Outgrowths at the Arvada Center in fall 2027.

This series explores the rhizome as a metaphor for collective creative resistance—an underground, non-hierarchical network that spreads horizontally and unpredictably, mirroring Artnauts’ collaborative model and global reach. Constantly evolving through processes of self-creation, the rhizome parallels Artnauts, which “uses the visual arts as a tool for addressing global issues while connecting with artists from around the world.â€

Artists in Rhizome: Origins were selected for their ties to the ÂÌñ»»ÆÞ, where Artnauts originated. The exhibition will be accompanied by a dynamic program of talks and public art-making events.
