Since 2009, Walters has managed a consulting firm focused on sustainable energy projects and market development with clients ranging from international governments and multilateral consortia to utility executives, project developers and technology entrepreneurs.

Prior to consulting, Walters worked for the federal government for 15 years. At the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, she engaged stakeholders to identify and resolve obstacles to clean energy market expansion in the electricity, buildings, transportation and industrial sectors. Her work included advising legislatures on crafting new market rules for clean energy, developing industry-basedÌýÌýfor an emerging workforce, and joining with USDA to create theÌý, which has financed billions of dollars in rural clean energy projects. At the U.S. Department of Energy, Walters was a co-author of the Clinton Administration’sÌýSustainable Energy StrategyÌýin 1995 and later served as chief of staff to the Assistant Secretary for Policy and International Affairs.Ìý

Walters joined Leeds School of Business in January 2022 as part-time faculty in the Social Responsibility and Sustainability division. She teaches undergraduate courses MGMT/CESR 4130 Sustainable Operations and BCOR 1015 World of Business.Ìý

Walters received her BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. She has also worked as an engineer in the transportation, petrochemical and food industries and as a state- and national-level political consultant.Ìý
