Summer Camp Spotlight: Shakespeare's Sprites

Shakespeare's Sprites is a playful introduction to the Bard for children ages 6 to 9—just one of several summer camps offered on campus.

Shakespeare's Sprites is one of many campuswide summer residential and day-camp offerings. Have older kids? Check out for children ages 9–18.

Others programs are designed for budding scientists, aerospace engineers andÌýmusicians. Still, more focus on leadership skill-building, the language and culture of ancient Rome, college preparation and more.

Seven-year-oldÌýBowe Victoria Schlansker, who participated in the program in 2016 and recently appeared in a Saturday Night Live skit, says “playing acting games with the other kidsâ€ was her favorite part of the camp.

´¡³ÙÌý, Schlansker learned stage combat using pool noodles and performed the role of Helena in a scene from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The camp also introduces Elizabethan costumes, period insults, Renaissance songs and lively scene work. Each week culminates in a final showing for family and friends, and tuition includes one ticket to attend a production.

Schlansker's mom, Angie Nevarez, grew up in BoulderÌýand “loved going to the Shakespeare festival every summer.â€ Nevarez advises other parents: “Sign up! Sprites is a wonderful way to introduce and inspire a love for the hilarious stories of Shakespeare at a young age.â€
