For 50 years, theÌýÌýat ÂÌñ»»ÆÞ has welcomed international teens, undergraduate and graduate-level students to the campus and to Boulder, providing a safe, nurturing and dynamic environment where students develop their English language skills, explore U.S. cultureÌýand connect with other students from around the world.

Opening your home to an international student gives them the opportunity to experience life in the United States and helps foster cross-cultural communication and understanding. The student becomes a part of your family, often resulting in a lifelong friendship.

The IEC is looking for local families to host international students for short-term stays (three to four weeks). Host families are required to provide well-balanced meals, reasonable use of the house and amenities, and transportation as necessary; in return, families receive a daily stipend for expenses.

If you’re interested in becoming a homestay family, you’ll need to submit an application, complete a criminal background check, and provide two non-relative personal references. IEC staff will also visit your home for a brief in-person interview.

Please feel free to share this information with colleagues, friends and neighbors.ÌýLearn moreÌýabout becoming a homestay family and fill out the interest form.ÌýEmail Eriko Yatabe-WaldockÌýor call 303-735-9590 with any questions.

The IEC is currently recruiting host families for Japanese university students coming to study at the center in February 2026.
